The SBCCI program provides funding and non-financial supports to Black-led, Black-focused and Black-serving organizations to help build their organizational capacity and grow their community-based projects.

Here is what you can expect to receive from this program:

Funding
SBCCI funding is intended to support Black led, Black focused non-profit organizations in the areas of capacity building and capital assistance. The program also offers funding to help you grow and sustain your operations.

Funding can help your organization to:

• Strengthen board governance
• Improve operational effectiveness
• Diversify funding sources
• Build organizational capacity
• Purchase equipment
• Renovate or retrofit your facility
Support
Supports offered include grant funding, wrap around support, communities of practice, networking and collaboration opportunities.  
Inclusion
This federally funded initiative was created in recognition of the United Nations' International Decade for People of African Descent with the intention of strengthening the capacity of Black communities, in part, through the funding of the Black-led non-profit organizations that serve them.

The Impact

The Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI) has been a remarkable success since its launch in 2020. Through its four intermediary partners—collectively known as the Black National Funders Intermediaries Network (BNFIN)—SBCCI has:
Supported over 1,600 non-profit organizations across Canada
Invested more than $252 million into Black communities nationwide
Created over 3,000 jobs

Eligibility

Organizations that meet ALL the following criteria are eligible to apply for funding from the SBCCI program
All prospective SBCCI organizations located in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland are required to apply for SBCCI funding through the Black National Funders Intermediaries Network (BNFIN) application portal. Access the platform using the following link https://www.bnfin.ca/sign-up
Legal entity in Canada
Must be a registered not-for-profit organization in Canada
Registered as a not-for-profit or a charitable organization
Registered as a not-for-profit or a charitable organization
Black-led organizations with a mandate to serve Black Canadian communities
Black-led organizations are those that meet the following criteria:

• The leadership positions (directors, founders) are primarily occupied by people who selfidentify as Black (minimum 2/3 Black-led);

• The governance structure (volunteer committee, advisory board, leadership, etc.) is primarily composed of people who self-identify as Black (minimum 2/3 Black-led); and

• The mandate serves Black Canadian communities
